Longevity Figures Prove US Health Care System Has Failed
2004-09-27 10:56:00
In a ranking of 13 first-world nations on longevity at various age
markers, the USA came in last or nearly last in almost every category. Yet America spends the greatest amount of dollars on pharmaceuticals per capita. If it is just that modern health care is having a hard time catching up, what is it they are having a hard time catching up to? Disease rates have never been higher overall than they are today. Obviously, systemic causes of disease and illness are not being addressed. The countries represented in the ranking are the United States, Japan, Sweden, Canada, France, Australia, Spain, Finland, Netherlands, U.K., Denmark, Belgium, and Germany. The data was originally published by WHO and referenced in a year 2000 JAMA report. Only the rankings for the USA are shown: 13th (last) in low-birth weights 13th (last) in neonatal mortality 13th (last) life lost excluding external causes 12th for males, life expectancy at 15 years 12th for males, life expectancy at 40 years 11th for post neonatal mortality 11th for life expectancy at 1 year for females ** 10th for age adjusted mortality ** 10th for females, life expectancy at 15 years 10th for females, life expectancy at 40 years 9th for males, life expectancy at 65 years 7th for females, life expectancy at 65 years |
