Indeed, and incredilbly potent if taken in the form of "tobacco water".
It is truly a visionary plant and the its status as a sacred one is not
surprising.

Modern cigs were created in the late 19th century when they discovered that
making the tobacco very alkaline enabled the nicotine to be delivered
through inhalation rather than through the buccal/sublingual route for
cigars... With a bit of a rush...

Hmmmmm... Sounds a whole lot like the invention/discovery of Crack,
doesn't...
