Suboxone appointment
2005-07-22 03:28:10
In my city, there are ony 2 docs that have the ability to prescribe
suboxone/subutex.I called, after a very compassionate ADH'er discussed it with me,and somehow got an appointment for August 8th,as someone had dropped out of the program that day and the limit from the DEA is 30 patients per doc. From other Bupe uses..I would like to know your stories about using it in the beginning.I am commited to doing this and getting rid of my opiate use...and I know it works differently for different people. I am trying to learn/read all I can about it,and there is very litte available for reseach on the net, except for the FDA/government info site. Hell,I even called the toll free number for the info and got a recording where they promised to return my call that day.....of course they didn't. I have tried it all.....rehab three times, where cold turkeyed 70 mgs of methadone(god was that hell),al to no avail. I will tell you this.Without the guy who e-mailed me from this group,I would be absolutey lost. I just wanted to hear some stories about how you felt at first. As some know,I am a morning/high-energy radio personality on a 100,000 watt rock station and very well known in public as I have been on air for twenty years. Please don't discourage me if you do reply,as I am scared as hell as it is,but ready to end it once and for all. Thanks ADH...and thanks SHOPPERICK for educating me and encouraging me to make a change. Maybe I will hit the lottery and remember you all. Peace and love, Parker

Keep in mind, bupe is unlike most other narcotics.... you do not need more, less is better. I feel much much better on .5mg-1mg of bupe than I did on 8 mgs. PS were you on TV the other week Parker? I saw a DJ on foxnews a few weeks back, I was wondering if it was you.

Parker, honey, I hope this all works out for you. I don't know much
about Bupe except what I've learned here on the group and I think this could be a really good thing for you and Rick is a good dude and he knows what he's talking about, he'll help you through this. Best wishes to you. If you need anything you know where I am. ********************************************** None of the ideas expressed above are actually mine. I will be interested in what the doctor tells you as they seem to vary on some points. For instance, most tell you that the combo of benzos and bupe is highly dangerous. I argued that point with a doc for a while and finally agreed to just take the ambien he thought would be better. Ambien is also addictive and I get a nice buzz from just one 10 mg pills., I also forget things from it and have hallucinations. THe next doc gave me benzos without a qustion as he knew that the problem with benzos and bupe (people died from the combo, is only an issue when the addict took large amounts of benzos. The normal doseage is not at all dangerous and I do get some major hyper activity from bupe. Not all the time but it does happen and did more in the beginning. I also get tired, sweat more then I have ever in my life, but there is a lot good about it too. Here is the thing. It may not completely stop your heroin useage or cravings at the dose that is best for limited side effects. I know most of the people on ADH that take it also use on occassion. The cravings do break through and you do have a cushion when you stop using. The key is to not use for the first maybe 4 to 6 months, longer if possible. THen make sure that you never stay on bupe vacation as many of us call it for more then a couple days. At the beginning I had this three day theory but over time I have found the bupe less effective to ward off withdrawals and the only way it seems to work for me and eliminate all withdrawal is if I use for only two days, no more. I can then bounce back, lose no work or home productivity and have my cake and eat it too I guess you could say. When I first got on bupe none of the other people who took it would admit that to me, for some reason they wanted to make the world think that it would not work. that the bupe would block the H completely and that I would have to remain off all opiates, bupe included of course, for several days before I would feel the effects. Wrong. I am sure of one thing. Heroin trumps bupe every time. You may need to do a bit more then usual but it does break through. Now, the second day you get higher then the first and the third is even better. If you continue to use each day gets you a bit higher but then there is the inevitable crash that comes from withdrawal. The bupe does lower your tolerance but that is not evident until you have none in your system which takes a few days. But tolerance builds faster each time or so I believe. What else do you need to know? I am also one who would be happy to help. I remember you from your past posts so I wish you the best. If I can help. just ask. Write me, I think you can easily figure out my address. Lindsey

About the only thing I can add is to ask your Dr. to prescribe Subutex for the first few days before swtiching you over to Suboxone. My best friend went straight from Oxy to Suboxone and even though she had been totally clean of all opiates for more than three days before she took her first dose of Suboxone she felt horrible for the first three to four days of her Suboxone regimen. After much reading, when I decided to go the bupe route I started off on Subutex and then switched over to Suboxone after a few days. My doctor was/is extremely reluctant to prescribe subutex so I ended up getting some from a friend in another state. I took subutex for the first few days and then switched over to Suboxone. Everything went much better for me than It did my friend that started on Suboxone at the beginning. I had used Suboxone before getting it from a doctor. But I hadn't actually started a consistent program. I only used it occasionally in order to take opiate vacations for a few days at a time to try and keep my tolerance to opiates down. My friend ended up not being able to use the Suboxone due to upper gastric problems, but I seem to do fine with it. I believe what made her experience bad was the fact that it was stopping her up, so everything backed up eventually causing upper GI problems. So Make sure you do whatever is necessary to stay regular. I take Colace at night before bed and in the morning I take Senokot-S. This helps to keep everything moving in the right direction. Suboxone and/or Subutex does work for the majority of people. I consider it a godsend. Good luck. |
